THE STYLIST’S GUIDE TO PARIS | JARDIN DES PLANTES
Start at Galerie de paléontologie et d’anatomie comparée to set the start of the adventure. This is Noah’s ark in skeleton form. Not only is it awe-inspiring in its display of every kind of animal but the building & display cabinets are breathtaking.
Walk through the medicinal herb gardens planted under Henry XIII with beautiful vistas of the surrounding buildings toward Galerie de Minéralogie. Although the display has lost some of its romance the minerals are worth a look. Before heading out of the gardens as you move toward the Muséum national d’histoire naturelle, walk into the library on the ground floor to visit the somewhat hidden Cabinet of Joseph Bonnier de La Mosson. It took me years to find this cabinet after many misleads, an intricately hand carved mint cabinet of curiosities dated from the 18th century, it was one of the most celebrated of its kind & purchased in 1744.
At the end of exploring Jardin des Plantes, take a short walk to the Grand Mosquée where you can enjoy fresh mint tea and a selection of sweet treats under the fig tree in the courtyard.
