Wallpaper
There are so many possibilities with wallpaper – so many textures and patterns to choose from – not just for covering a whole room or a feature wall but a creative addition when loosely erected with pins as freeform art (and when your styling mood changes, you can just take it down and use it for something else). Though the history of wallpaper is a little hard to pin down due to the fleeting nature of its material makeup, it’s possible to see its beginnings in ancient China. You can then see it emerge clearer in France (of course) as it took off all over the world. I have rolls of vintage wallpaper, which I use in all sorts of ways. Line the inside of a cupboard with something colourful to create a decorative background. I like that you can play with its level of permanence, as I can decide to change the entire look of my interiors in an afternoon.
