Rope
This material is one that I’m always hunting for. I love its texture, the various thicknesses it comes in and the different ways it can be used. Rope has helped me create large-scale hanging displays, add interest to a chair by wrapping it around the back and also served me well as a nautical-inspired doormat, seen here. If I see a seaside antiques store, I’ll keep my eyes peeled for curiosities with rope detailing or just coils of rope that have lived a sailor’s (or pirate’s) life. I’ve even added a few rope-inspired pieces to my shop’s collection, including the sailors whisk and the rope wall hook. It’s fair to say that rope is one of my favourite humble materials.
