Quartz
True to its aesthetic, Quartz was referred to by the Ancient Greeks as kruos, which translated to “icy cold”. And for good reason – a polished piece of quartz has a glacial quality to it. But the real beauty of quartz os that you can find pieces in all sorts of different sizes, shapes and clarities, meaning that you’ll always be surprised at what you have to work with. Though its a very common crystal – the second most abundant in the world, in fact – I will always feel surprised and excited about the possibilities of working with quartz. Perhaps its a big rough-cut piece that I know will bring its own effect to a tabletop or bare corner, quartz has a slightly magical aesthetic that I’m happy to tap into any day of the week. I love its magic and undeniably of-the-earth look. It makes quartz a handy go-to if I’m laking material inspiration.
