Hide

Texture is one of the key elements that draws me to a material. I love texture for its visual and tactile bonuses, and hides from here and there bring with them texture and character in spades. I, personally, tend more towards vintage pieces because then you’re not only holding onto a fragment of the past with a serious story attached, but you’re also sourcing from an already existing offering. And when I say that vintage hides bring a serious story with the, I mean it – hides are perhaps one of the earliest materials used by our very ancient ancestors. By no means am I suggesting that I acquired a hide of that vintage for my collection, but I have pulled together some incredible examples. The common thread in this alphabet series seems to be paying homage to nature, as you see my appreciation for natural materials, so it’s fitting that H brings us to hides. Natural beauty always wins.
